Trim Levels (Exterior)
The lineup starts with the 2.5 S Select, which comes standard with i-Activ AWD®, wireless Apple CarPlay®, and Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go. The 2.5 S Preferred adds a power liftgate, an 8-way power driver's seat, and front and rear parking sensors. The 2.5 S Meridian Edition gives the CX-50 a more rugged look with 18-inch Black Metallic alloy wheels, black roof rails, and heated front seats. The 2.5 S Premium adds 20-inch machine-cut alloy wheels, ventilated front seats, and a windshield wiper de-icer.
If you want more power, the Turbo models are where you'll find it. The 2.5 Turbo adds Mazda's turbocharged engine, the Adaptive Front-lighting System, and up to 3,500 lbs. of towing capacity. The 2.5 Turbo Meridian Edition combines that engine with unique off-road styling, a heated steering wheel, and Mazda navigation. At the top of the lineup, the 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus includes a 360° View Monitor with See-through View, Cruising and Traffic Support, and Smart Brake Support with Turn-Across Traffic and Front Crossing.
Powertrain
Most CX-50 models use Mazda's SKYACTIV®-G 2.5-liter engine, producing 187 horsepower and 185 lbs. ft. of torque. Turbo models increase output to as much as 256 horsepower and 320 lbs. ft. of torque when running premium fuel.
Every CX-50 comes standard with i-Activ AWD® and Mazda Intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive), which lets you switch between Normal, Sport, Off-Road, and, on some models, Towing mode. When properly equipped, naturally aspirated models can tow up to 2,000 lbs., while Turbo models can tow up to 3,500 lbs.
Performance
One of the CX-50's biggest strengths is that it doesn't ask you to choose between comfort and capability. It feels responsive on pavement, but standard i-Activ AWD® is always working in the background to adjust power as road conditions change. G-Vectoring Control Plus helps the SUV stay composed through corners, and with between 8.3 and 8.6 inches of ground clearance, the CX-50 is comfortable on gravel roads, trailheads, and uneven terrain.
Interior
The cabin keeps things simple without feeling basic. There's seating for 5, quality materials throughout, and controls that are easy to reach without taking your attention off the road. Available features like a panoramic moonroof and ventilated front seats add a little more comfort on higher trims. Cargo space measures 31.4 cu. ft. behind the second row and expands to 56.3 cu. ft. with the rear seats folded, giving you enough room for camping gear, luggage, or a couple of bikes.
At the center is the Mazda Connect™ infotainment system, featuring a 10.25-inch display with wireless Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ integration. Ambient lighting and a streamlined dashboard create a calming, modern atmosphere.
Trim-specific features include leather-trimmed seating, heated and ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. A Bose® premium audio system, USB-C ports, and a wireless charging pad are available to enhance both connectivity and convenience. Optional interior finishes such as terracotta leather and black suede accents elevate the cabin’s sense of luxury.
Safety Features
Every 2026 CX-50 comes with Mazda's i-Activsense® safety suite. Standard features include Smart Brake Support, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane-keep Assist, and Mazda Radar Cruise Control. Higher trims add front and rear parking sensors, Smart Brake Support with Turn-Across Traffic and Front Crossing, a 360° View Monitor with See-through View, and Cruising and Traffic Support. Together, those features helped the CX-50 earn a 2026 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ award and a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from the NHTSA.
Technology
Mazda keeps the technology straightforward. Available Alexa Built-in lets you control navigation, music, climate settings, and compatible smart home devices with voice commands. The MyMazda App and Mazda Connected Services let you remotely start the engine, lock or unlock the doors, and check your vehicle's location through a one-year trial. Available Bose® audio, SiriusXM®, and Mazda navigation round out the technology package on higher trims.
