Your Mazda provides cocoon-like safety due to an advanced range of cameras, long- and short-wave radar, and ultrasound. These systems are part of a comprehensive package of Mazda safety features that keep you and your passengers safe when driving. We will look at a few of these systems and see how they work.

Examples of Mazda Safety Features and How They Work

Blind Spot Warning (BWS)Mazda 360-view | Vancouver, WA

Blind spots are a part of life, unfortunately. They’re the areas around your vehicle that you can’t see using your side or rearview mirrors. This makes these areas dangerous, as it’s impossible to see another vehicle until it’s too late. BWS makes driving safer by using sensors and cameras to monitor these areas.

If a vehicle enters one of your blind spots, the system triggers, and you’ll receive audio and visual cues of the vehicle’s location. This allows you to take action and avoid an accident.

Forward-Collision Warning (FCW)

FCW uses sensors, or sensors and a camera, depending on your Mazda model, to watch the road ahead. If it detects another vehicle, the system calculates its distance and speed and compares it to your speed.

The FCW provides visual or audio warnings or vibrations through the steering wheel if it determines the distance between vehicles is closing too fast. These highlight the potential danger so you can take action.

Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)

This system proactively intervenes if you’re unable to respond quickly enough. It works with the FCW and will slow your Mazda or bring it to a hard stop if necessary to prevent an accident.

Dynamic Brake Support

If this system detects that you’re jamming on the brakes, it maximizes braking pressure to stop your vehicle as quickly as possible. This can happen in an emergency if you’re trying to brake and have applied enough pressure due to stress or distraction. Stopping your vehicle as quickly as possible can often prevent an accident or reduce its damage.

Lane-Departure Warning (LDW)

If your wheels cross into another lane and you’re not actively steering in that direction, LDW provides audio and visual warnings you’re straying into another lane. It does this by using a forward-facing camera to identify the lane lines that will instantly warn you if you accidentally cross them.

Lane-Keeping Assist (LKA)

LKA works with the LDW above to keep you safely positioned in your lane. If you stray out of your lane, this system provides additional steering wheel support to enable you to steer back into your original lane again.

These are just some of the standard systems available on every Mazda. Your model may also include additional standard or available safety features. If you’d like to know more, contact us today at Alan Webb Mazda in Vancouver, WA.
