Comparing the 2025 Mazda CX-70 vs. the 2025 Mazda CX-5 at Your Mazda Dealership
Engine and Performance
The 2025 CX-70 is Mazda’s flagship midsize SUV designed for efficient performance. Under its hood, a mild hybrid 3.3L inline-6 engine provides 280 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, as well as fuel economy ratings of 24 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway. A rear-biased all-wheel drive system and selectable drive modes are standard across the lineup, and you can also tow 3,500 to 5,000 pounds, depending on the trim.
The 2025 CX-5 is a compact crossover powered by a 187-horsepower 2.5L inline-4 engine that generates 186 pound-feet of torque. Like the CX-70, it has standard all-wheel drive, and it boasts similar fuel economy ratings, with 23 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on highways. This crossover also has a trailering capacity of 2,000 pounds.
Exterior Dimensions
While both models are relatively compact, the CX-5 has a shorter wheelbase of 106.2 inches, which translates to a total length of 180.1 inches. This model has a width of 83.3 inches with the side mirrors open, so it can easily fit in narrow parking lots and traverse crowded or narrow streets. The CX-70 measures 201.6 inches in length and has a width of 84.9 inches with the side mirrors open.
Passenger and Cargo Space
As expected, the CX-70 has a more spacious cabin than the CX-5. This midsize SUV has seats for five with 41.7 inches of front-row legroom and 39.4 inches in the second row. Behind the rear seats, 39.6 cubic feet of cargo area gives you plenty of room for luggage, gym bags, or a stroller with lots of grocery bags on top of it.
With 41.0 inches of legroom at the front and 39.6 inches at the rear, the CX-5 doesn’t sacrifice passenger comfort. However, the rear cargo area is smaller, with a volume of 29.1 cubic feet. With the rear seats folded, the CX-5 provides a maximum cargo volume of 59.3 cubic feet, whereas the CX-70 boasts 75.3 cubic feet.
Technology Features
Both SUVs come equipped with the Mazda Connect infotainment system. The CX-70 boasts a huge 12.3-inch center touchscreen with standard wireless smartphone integration, Alexa built-in, HD Radio, and a standard wireless phone charger. The CX-5 has a 10.25-inch center touchscreen with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on the entry trim levels, while wireless smartphone integration and a wireless phone charger are available.
